Why Give to the Asian American Studies Center?

The Asian American Studies Center (AASC) at UCLA is one of the largest and most comprehensive centers of its kind in the nation. Since its founding in 1969, the AASC has worked to educate the public about the rich history of this diverse nation. It has interrogated exclusionary policies and violent actions taken against migrants, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable communities throughout history. We have done this so that there may be greater understanding and respect for one another across our differences, seeing that education can carve paths towards a more just and inclusive future. Giving to the Asian American Studies Center supports life-changing research, events relevant to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, scholarships and support for students, and more.

Our Funds

The AAPI Project Fund:

To support educational curricular projects that make AAPI scholarship available for the masses in order to highlight significant contributions, struggles and contemporary experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, as well as foster multiracial solidarity in order to create a more robust and inclusive democracy.

AAPI Digital Collection Fund:

To support archiving work managed by or done in collaboration with the UCLA Asian American Studies Center. This work may include (but is not limited to) digitization, processing, and outreach related to Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) archives.

AAPI Policy Initiative:

To support research and policy work conducted at UCLA's Asian American Studies Center.

AASC 50 for 50 Fund:

This fund supports oral history projects, such as The Collective Memories Project, that document the histories and impact of Asian Americans and the UCLA Asian American Studies Center. This fund was created in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Asian American Studies at UCLA, to honor the campus and community voices that led to a more inclusive university.

Asian American Studies Center Fund:

This fund supports a wide range of campus and community-based programs related to research, at the direction of the Director.

Scholarships/Fellowships for Asian American Studies (21st Century)

This fund provides support for undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, and internships for UCLA students in Asian American studies.

Friends of the Reading Room:

Your gift provides support for the Center's Reading Room and Library and the preservation of archival collections and digitization of materials to enhance knowledge about Asian American and Pacific Island studies.

Friends of EthnoCommunications Fund:

Your donation provides support to the Center for EthnoCommunications' programs and activities.

Additional Ways to Give

There are many ways to support the AASC. Learn more about ways to make a donation that works best for you.

Bequests

In writing a will or living trust, you can specify that you would like your estate to benefit UCLA. Your bequest gift may enable you to make long-term support to the AASC, while at the same time allowing you to achieve your short-term financial, philanthropic, and other goals.

Real Estate

Giving land, farms, personal residences, and rental or commercial property, either in its entirety or in part, can benefit the AASC while providing you relief from capital gains taxes. For residential properties, it is possible to arrange a sizable tax deduction by deeding a home to UCLA, while continuing to occupy the property for life.

Personal Property

The AASC gratefully accepts donations of materials that support the academic, teaching and research mission of the University. The University receives a wide variety of such gifts, including rare books and manuscripts, works of art, equipment and other items of value.

Intellectual Property

We welcome gifts of copyrights, patents, royalties, licenses, and technical data. The tax and legal provisions that govern these gifts vary according to the type of property.

Stock and Bonds

Appreciated stocks and bonds are a popular asset donated to UCLA by alumni and friends. Securities can be transferred directly from your brokerage account to the university's account. You can download the appreciated stock giving form here.

Matching Gifts

The easiest way to double - or even triple - your contribution to the AASC is to request a matching gift from your employer. Thousands of companies nationwide support their workforce by making such gifts to the organizations and institutions their employees care about. Pledges

A pledge is a statement of intention to make a gift to UCLA. Donors who seek to defer the bulk of their giving until a future date, or who want to give via installments over time, may use this giving strategy. This allows donors to promise a gift in the future and make payments over time.
