Voices From The Canefields by Franklin Odo

Voices from the CanefieldsProfessor Franklin Odo, one of the original faculty of UCLA's Asian American Studies Center, will discuss the 200 holehole bushi he studied for his new book, VOICES FROM THE CANEFIELDS. These folk songs, akin to traditional tanka or haiku poetry, describe the daily experiences of immigrants from Japan caught in the global movements of capital, empire, and labor during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
