The Asian American Studies Center and Southeast Asian Students for OrgaNizing (SEASON) Conference are proud to present Dr. Viet Thanh Nguyen as the keynote speaker for the first-ever Southeast Asian Students for OrgaNizing Conference and the 2020 David Nishida and Tina Yamano Nishida Distinguished Lecture.

Dr. Nguyen will speak on his experience as a student organizer at UC Berkeley and how this experience has informed his ongoing work as a refugee author, scholar, and activist for the Southeast Asian and larger Asian American communities. In speaking about the connections between his past advocacy and current work, Dr. Nguyen will also touch upon what he sees as the critical questions that will shape the field of Asian American Studies and Southeast Asian advocacy in the coming years, especially given the turbulent political climate of today.

Special thanks to the UCLA Residential Life, USAC Cultural Affairs Commission, Students Wellness Commission, Fighting for Family, Department of English at UCLA, Center for Southeast Asian Studies at UCLA, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice for supporting our event.
