The Battle of the Bulge occurring in December of 1944 was the largest land battle in World War II, involving one million allied and German combatants. The battle developed in the Ardennes Forest bordering Germany, resulting in nearly two hundred thousand casualties. By the fifth day of the battle, seven thousand of the ten thousand men in my division, 106th Infantry, were captured and we began an eight hundred mile trek through Germany during the remainder of the war.
