Dresden

In February of 1945, Allied fire bombing destroyed Dresden. Among POWs in the 106th Infantry Division who were in the city at the time of the fire bombing was Kurt Vonnegut, who relates his story in Slaughterhouse Five. In March of 1945 the fire bombing of Japan began in Tokyo with one hundred thousand killed. By July of 1945, sixy-five cities in Japan were destroyed by fire bombing.
