Frequently Asked Questions

What is the census?

The census is a mandated count by the federal government taken every ten years of EVERY person living in the United States, regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, citizenship or immigration status.

What does the Census do?

Is responsible for the distribution of nearly 883 billion dollars in federal funding. (Reamer 2019)

Is responsible for the reappointment of congressional seats based on the population numbers received.

What is reapportionment?

The population of a state determines how many seats a state gets in the house of representatives.

So if a population greatly increases or decreases that could result in a state gaining or losing a seat.

What is UCOT's goal?

We have set out to help the hard to count populations in LA county.

The hard to count population that we have decided to target is UCLA students.

How to get counted in the census?

The Census is an online form this year meaning that the preferred option for completing the census this year is the online form.

While the Online form is the preferred option there are still other ways in which to answer:

- These include over the phone and if one waits then there is a paper form
