SECOND GENERATION

_

banner

Welcome

Our group's target population is high school students who have at least one foreign-born parent and thus identify as second-generation. As children of immigrants or immigrants ourselves, we know first-hand that as trusted messengers in our household, we are uniquely positioned to engage in discussions about the Census with our loved ones. This generally extends to second-generation immigrants, who tend to explain political information to their parents and families. As such, we want to equip youth populations with accurate, applicable information about the 2020 Census, so they can be an informed trusted messenger for their communities.

About Us

Iris: I'm majoring in Political Science and minoring in Education Studies & Asian American Studies at UCLA. As a low-income, first-generation college student, education has always been an area of importance for my family. I care about the 2020 Census because it determines crucial funding allocations for educational resources and social services that impacts a broad scope of underserved communities.

Kaumron: I'm double majoring in Political Science and Communication with a Race, Ethnicity, and Politics Concentration at UCLA. As a second-generation immigrant myself, I'm extremely passionate about racial justice and making sure people of color are counted on the 2020 Census!

Amy: I'm majoring in Political Science and minoring in Disability Studies, on the Pre-Medical track. I'm passionate about accurately counting people in for the 2020 Census because it determines the distribution of political power for the next 10 years. Everyone deserves a voice and an accurate allocation of funding and resources!

Millie: I'm majoring in Political Science and minoring in History at UCLA. As a low-income, first-generation college student, and immigrant, I am deeply passionate about ensuring the members from my community are counted in the Census as I understand firsthand the benefits to being civically engaged.
