Biographical Information

Melany Dela Cruz has been running the Asian Pacific American Community Development Data Center since 2002. A partnership of the UCLA Asian American Studies Center, the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (CAPACD), and U.S. Census Bureau Census Information Center Program--APACDDC was established to serve the census data needs of CAPACD members and other Asian and Pacific Islander community development corporations, community-based organizations, and non-profits doing work in the field of housing and community/economic development. Melany has provided training and technical support on gathering and using census data; developed fact sheets and reports on Asian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander subpopulation group census data; and produced specialized reports, data, or mapping services to meet the specific needs of community-based organizations.

She holds a master's in urban planning from UCLA and a bachelor's in ethnic studies and urban studies and planning from the University of California at San Diego .

She is also a member of the Balagtasan Collective* Los Angeles , trying to do her part in creating art and cultivating community for social change through cultural events and community workshops.
