Gilbert Gee, Ph.D. (UCLA)

Gilbert C. Gee, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA. He received his bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Oberlin College, his doctorate in Heatlh Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins University, and post-doctoral training in sociology from Indiana University. His areas of expertise include the topics of stress, environmental exposures, and occupational health on Asian American populations.

Butch De Castro, Ph.D, MSN/MPH, RN (UW)

Butch de Castro, Ph.D., is a Professor in the University of Washington Bothell School of Nursing and Health Studies. He received his bachelor’s degree in Science in Nursing from the University of California Los Angeles, his master’s in nursing, his master’s in public health, and his doctorate in philosophy from John Hopkins University, and his post-doctoral research from the University of Illinois. His expertise is in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences and Public Health Nursing. His research principally focuses on occupational health disparities among immigrant and minority worker populations, with an emphasis on how employment and working conditions contribute to chronic stress.

Karen Llave, MPH (UCLA)

Karen serves as the project manager for HoPES. She received her bachelor's degree in health science from California State University, Fullerton and her master of public health degree from California State University, Northridge. Prior to joining the HoPES team, she worked as a research assistant on projects focusing on the Pacific Islander population in Southern California. Karen also works as a program coordinator for the Minority Training Program in Cancer Control Research (MTPCCR) at UCLA.

Nanette Lee Mayol, Ph.D (USC)

Nanette L. Mayol, Ph.D., is the Deputy Director and Research Fellow in the University of San Carlos at the Office of Population Studies Foundation Inc. She received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Cebu Doctor’s University, her master’s in health social science from De La Salle University, and her doctorate in nutrition (epidemiology) from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Her expertise is on prospective longitudinal studies. Her recent research includes long-term effects of early life exposures on health and human capital.

Maria Midea M. Kabamalan, Ph.D. (UP-Diliman)

Ma. Midea M. Kabamalan, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Demography in the University of the Philippines Population Institute. She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Santo Tomas, her master’s in demography from the University of the Philippines, her master’s in sociology and her doctorate in sociology from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Her expertise is on data collection, processing, and analysis, conceptualization of research, and preparation of survey instruments and related materials.
