The UCLA Asian American Studies Cnter recently received a $100,000 grant from the California Wellness Foundation to study youth violence among Asian Americans.

- Smithsonian Exhibit on Wartime Internment and redress Movement Coming to UCLA Oct. 30 to Dec. 22
The Asian American Studies Center is collaborating with the UCLA Powel College library in organizing a series of public educational programs that will be held with the only Los Angles showing of a national Smithsonian Travelign Exhibits, "A More Perfect Union: Japanese Americans and the United State Constitution."

This July, I told my parents I wanted to go to the annual Walnut Grove buddhist Bazaar in northern California. "We've never gone before, why do you want to go now?" my father asked.
- Two More Asian American Professors Granted Tenure at UCLA in 1997
Two more professors who are affiliated with the Center were promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure at the end of Spring quarter 1997.

The institute of American Cultures (IAC) announced the following grants and draduate fellowships for 1997-98 to support research projects in the fild of sian American Studies.

The Asian American Studies Center welcomes two new staff members: Thao Lam and Sefa Aina.
- Darryl Mar Hired as Center's Publications Distribution Coordinator
Darryl Mar, a recent graduate of the M.A. Program is Asian American Studies, has been hired as the new distribution coodinator for Center publication.
- Center Unveils New Asian American CD-ROM
"The Asian-American Journaey" is the title of a new CD_ROM developed by Primary Source Media and the Asian American Studies Center. The project is part of Primary Source's "American Journey" series.
- UCLA Law Professor Jerry Kang CoAuthors Comprehensive Report on Asian Americans and Affirmative Action
Professor Jerry Kang of the UCLA Law School joined with three other Asian American law professors to aproduce a comprehensive report analyzing the impact of afffirmative action on Asian Pacific Americans.
- Center's Web Site Has a New Look!
The UCLA Asian American Studies Center has a new web page design created by new webmaster Gene Moy, a graduate student in our master's program.
