One of the most troubling outcomes of a decade of welfare reform is the disproportionately high number of AAPIs who are unable to transition to work and have exhausted their benefits. The symposium will bring together university and government researchers, as well as community representatives and legislative staff. The symposium will examine current research on this population, discuss the implications for policies and programs, and identify new research.

Conveners:
Professor Paul Ong (School of Public Affairs and Asian American Studies)
Professor Ailee Moon (Department of Social Welfare)

Presenters and Discussants:
Mr. Dennis G. Arguelles, A3PCON
Dr. Rikki Baum, UC Office of the President
Professor Evelyn Blumenberg, UCLA (via telephone from Hawai’i)
Professor Julian Chow, UC Berkeley
