Research Grant Program in Ethnic Studies at UCLA, 2007-08
The Institute of American Cultures, in conjunction with the the American Indian Studies Center, the Asian American Studies Center, Bunche Center for African American Studies, and the Chicano Studies Research Center, invites applications for support of research on African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans, and Chicanas/os for 2007-2008.
Also for 2007-2008, the IAC is working with the University of California Committee on Latino Research and the Chicano Studies Research Center to offer research grants in Latino Policy Studies. To apply for this grant , please use the IAC research grant application form. Check both the Chicano Studies and the Latino Policy Studies boxes on the application.
ELIGIBILITY: UCLA faculty, staff, graduate students, and IAC postdoctoral fellows.
TO APPLY: Application forms can be obtained online, from each of the Ethnic Studies Centers, or from the IAC Office. The Institute particularly encourages proposals that will make a contribution to the Ethnic Studies Centers. It also invites proposals on interethnic relations that will increase collaboration between the Centers and/or between the Centers and other campus units.
Prior to submission of the application, applicants should discuss their proposal with the assistant director or director of the appropriate Center, or in the case of interethnic proposals, with the assistant directors or directors of the Centers involved.
FUNDING: The Research Grant Program is on a reimbursement basis only. Ordinarily, faculty projects will be funded for no more than $7,000 and graduate student projects for no more than $3,000. Funds for the purchase of permanent equipment will be provided only under exceptional circumstances. Conference travel, whether the applicant is presenting or attending, is ineligible.
GRANT PERIOD: July 1, 2007 through May 31, 2008.
Grant recipients using human subjects will be required to submit her or his research proposal or exemption materials to the UCLA Institutional Review Board for approval. For those doing research on human subjects, funds will be available to grant recipients after completion of training and certification in the Protection of Human Research Subjects.
